Entertainment
Sydney is bursting with entertainment, activities and nightlife. The city comes alive with great pubs, nightclubs and performing arts such as opera, ballet and theatre. Movie buffs are also well catered for with film festivals and open air cinemas during the summer months.
Delegates and spouses have a wide choice of entertainment and activities to choose from during their leisure hours either before, during or after the conference.
Darling Harbour’s waterfront bars, restaurants and nightclubs are a magnet for the younger crowd as well as families, while the pubs of The Rocks provide great jazz bands and rock music.
The Sydney Opera House has a full calendar of opera, ballet, dance, drama, symphony concerts and recitals. There’s always something happening in Sydney, with a range of special events including arts and music festivals, parades, food and wine fairs, open air events, multicultural celebrations and sporting events.
Outdoor Activities
With more than 130 hectares of parks, gardens and open spaces, the heart of Sydney’s Central Business District offers wonderful expanses of parkland.
Enjoy a picnic or a concert in The Domain or stroll through the Royal Botanic Gardens, home to over a million specimens including the recently discovered Wollemi pine or ‘dinosaur tree’ - one of the rarest plants in the world.
For the active, Sydney offers a range of outdoor activities designed to show-off its beautiful harbour. One of the best aspects of the city can be found on foot by walking across the Sydney Harbour Bridge - the pedestrian walkway provides magnificent views of the harbour and city.
The adventurous can even climb the Bridge, discover a little of its history and enjoy a once-in-a-lifetime aerial view of the city. Alternatively, make Sydney Harbour your playground with a cruise or some sailing and the promise of a cold beer, excellent wine and great food at the end of the journey.
If you’re keen to know what the locals do, head down to Bondi Beach for a swim in the ocean; visit one of the many open air markets and discover the next young Australian designer; or jump on a ferry and explore Manly beach.
Taronga Zoo is always a favourite with visitors for a photo opportunity with a koala or kangaroo.
Museums and Galleries
Art lovers can head to one of the many boutique galleries in Paddington. There are also many museums, including the Australian National Maritime Museum where you can explore Australia’s link to the sea and go aboard the HMAS Vampire, a former Royal Australian Navy destroyer.
The Australian Museum is one of the best natural history museums in the world with many interactive displays and changing exhibitions.
Outside the conference, your delegates will be busy falling in love with the city of Sydney.
